A girl and a robot thinking together

Think it through together · A little story

A girl hears that AI can write articles and worries that people will not need to learn in the future. The robot separates “a particular task” from “a whole person’s job.”

Lay out the process

Follow the numbered steps, then explain them in your own words
  1. TasksSome steps can be automated
  2. JobsInclude different responsibilities and teamwork
  3. People’s rolesJudgment, goals, and taking responsibility
  4. The futureDepends on technology and choices in society

AI may change how some tasks are done, but one capability does not prove that all people will be replaced.

A job often includes communication, judgment, responsibility, and practical work. Which parts change, and how quickly, depends on technology, cost, rules, and other factors.

It is more useful for children to practice asking questions, understanding ideas, and working with people than to treat the future as a script that has already been written.

Your turn to try

If a tool can automatically check spelling, does that mean people no longer need to decide what an article should say?

Have you thought it through? Open for an explanation

No. A tool can handle some steps, but people still need to help set goals, judge content, and take responsibility.

Take away one discovery

AI may change how some tasks are done, but one capability does not prove that all people will be replaced.

Try covering the diagram above and explaining each step to someone in your family. If one step is hard to explain, go back and look at that card again.
