Think Together · Start with a Short Story
The girl shows the robot a cat photo and asks it to write a description. Why might looking at an image, recognizing something, and generating words all be called AI?

Artificial intelligence is the field of studying and building systems that can perform certain intelligent tasks.
Many modern AI systems are trained on data and learn patterns that can be used to recognize or generate things. They are not tiny people inside computers; they are systems supported by algorithms, data, and computing resources.
It is more useful to ask “What task can it do, and when might it fail?” than only “How smart is it?”
Now You Try
If an automatic door opens when it senses a person, does that prove there is a large language model inside?

Not necessarily. A simple sensor and control rule can do that. Automatic responses and complex AI are not the same thing.
One Idea to Take Away

Try covering the diagram above and explaining each step to someone in your family. If one step is hard to explain, return to that card and look again.
